If you go down to the station today you’re in for a big surprise… You will see that the platform has been transformed, trees and shrubs and pathways cleared, and all is ready for some planting in readiness for Spring!

The idea of a makeover for the station was originally suggested by members of Merched Y Wawr, but with the help of the Tidy Towns Initiative, Arriva Trains, Swansea City Council, our own Partnership, some volunteers and most importantly some pupils from Pontarddulais Comprehensive School, the area has been cleared and improved.

The youngsters taking part were from year 11 at Pontarddulais Comprehensive School, who worked closely with teacher Sue Davies Lowe and youth worker Angela Payne to achieve a level two Asdan certificate of personal effectiveness — a qualification equivalent to GCSE grade B that requires at least 20 hours of community work. To their credit they worked hard and we hope that they will benefit in more ways than one from this experience.

Many people use the Heart of Wales line and hopefully this scheme will enhance the appearance of the station and provide a pleasing welcome for travellers.

And there’s more to come in Phase II next year!
